Quick Analysis of Sony's New Play Station 5 Design from an Industrial Product Design Perspective.
While I am not much of a gamer, I am a fanatic of great design especially hardware and its fusion with interactive entertainment.
Here are some of my obervations...
- Where most design these days are cycling around the same aesthetics space, this one stands out especially with Zaha Hadid inspired sci-fi curvatures, the Surface design is pretty futuristic living up to its pay-off, 'the future of gaming'
- The Duo-tone colour scheme gives a nice contrast, balancing between evocative and elegance, which also makes it timeless!
- The horizontal orientation of the console feels like an afterthought though. Most of the unveil images show the product in a vertical orientation which feels more natural
- The over-hang of the surfacing will be a huge dust trap. I understand that this might not have been obvious in the usability testing phase of the product development but it is definitely going to affect maintenance.
