Questions you have been asking me
This week, I will address some questions that you, my readers, have been asking me.
As creatives, should we have a resume ready at all times?
I would say, absolutely. Of course, whether you need it or not, and how you write it will vary, from situation to situation. For a writer, your publications and writing samples are important, so list them out. Often they are more important than a resume. You might also want to write a profile. For a director or cinematographer, your show reel is critical. If you are a musician, you can send them instances of your live and recorded performances, and as a visual artist, you could link to your artwork. Having an online presence always helps.
Should we hyperlink our social media on our resumes?
Even in industries like banking and law, hyperlinking your Linkedin Profile is a good idea. Only add your instagram if you are a focussed influencer with demonstrated expertise in your field and it pertains to the job you are applying to. Definitely add your instagram if you are applying for a job in advertising or digital marketing. Otherwise, it is advisable not to add it to your resume.
How should we approach our resumes in 2023?
Always remember that your resume is a marketing tool, not a documentation of your life history. Only share relevant details pertinent to the job.
