Questions to Ask Your Interviewer

Questions to Ask Your Interviewer

So you’re nearing the end of your interview when your interviewer asks, “Do you have any questions for me?” Many applicants are caught off-guard; after all, aren’t you supposed to answer questions rather than ask them? However, this query can actually be a golden opportunity to impress your interviewer and learn more about the company. Here are five ways that you can respond when your interviewer asks you for questions.

Get clarification on information that was not detailed in the job description.

If there is something about the position that you would like to know which was not clarified in the job description, now is the time to ask. For instance, you could ask for a more detailed description of the position’s day-to-day duties. This will give you a better sense of what the job will be like and also improve your understanding of how to market yourself for the position.

Ask about the interviewer’s experience with the company.

Most people love talking about themselves, and your interviewer is probably no exception. By asking your interviewer about their experience, you can learn about what makes the organization stand out to its workers. You can also take a break from answering the barrage of questions by sitting back and listening to your interviewer.

Learn more about the company’s culture.

Besides determining whether a job’s duties fit your skill set, it’s also important to know how well you will fit in with a company’s culture. Is the management style more open or formal? Do the employees collaborate, or do they prefer to keep to themselves? Knowing the answers to questions like these will help you find out whether you will feel fulfilled in the position.

Show off your research skills.

You can impress an interviewer with a question that shows off your knowledge of the company. Before your interview, take some time to research the organization. Later, you can ask your interviewer company-specific questions about its Founder or initiatives and knock their socks off with your research skills.

Find out if the interviewer would like you to clarify anything.

Ask your interviewer whether they want you to go into greater detail on an aspect of your resume or an answer you gave during the interview. This could be a great opportunity to clear up misunderstandings or make up for an incomplete answer you may have given.
