I’m glad the question makes “challenges” plural!?I’ll phrase my answers as issues solo Consultants need to overcome.
- Not specialising in a niche
- Not selecting a niche on the basis of knowing it better than it knows itself!
- Being unable to define their ‘ideal client’
- Not setting out to be the expert in their field
- Not understanding Marketing, especially promotion
- Believing everyone else does understand Marketing and thus copying the rubbish they then put out
- Failing to understand that brand awareness (Getting our name out there) in isolation is a foolish strategy - Build brand awareness on the back of lead generation!
- Being scared of selling - Especially of closing, objection handling and negotiating
- Having a large enough network that you’re never scared of finding a problem you can’t help solve - Delegate!
- Having a large enough network that you never have to pretend to be something you’re not - Delegate!
- Not charging enough
- Not getting paid soon enough - Ideally before work ever starts!
- Failing to prevent scope-creep
