When we set objectives for the year, normally in January or even in December I see many people saving their files in the folder and revisiting only when it comes to a mid year review. In meantime the day to day operations call for urgent or routine responses and suddenly you see yourself drifting away of what really matters and losing track of your progress from the agreed objectives. My opinion is that you can only focus on what really matters if your are keeping track of your objectives progress and results on a monthly or weekly basis. Everything starts with a SMART objective easy to track.
