A question of legacy! - What will be yours!

Legacy! As I grow older I am increasingly fascinated by the impact that our lives have and how we will be remembered. Perhaps the tragic COVID- 19 pandemic has brought these issues to the forefront, in a way we would never have anticipated. Or rather it may, in my case, be just the passing of time that is a stark reminder of my own mortality. We are conditioned to dream without limit and abandon and live in the allure of the moment and the now. Yet, we must also remember that as we live our lives we write a story that will be told when we depart. What story are you writing? I ask myself the same question as days become weeks and yet another year draws to a close. Lives lived well are never forgotten. History is replete with stories of charisma and impact that will forever be etched in the annals of history. Our life stories are seldom the same, we navigate the experiences which come our way and in our specific context have the opportunity to make an impact.

Today, reflect on your life and the story that will be told about you when you depart the earth. Will you be remembered as a positive, gallant role model or a negative destructive element or perhaps your passing will be a mere flicker in the night, almost imperceptible to those in your circle? The shaping of legacy happens everyday in every interaction. As we go about our daily lives, we tell a tale of who we are. The pursuit of fame and fortune and even influence has a role to play but are these the only kind of characteristics we want to be remembered for? Sometimes the greatest legacies are of lives lived quietly but impacting lives on a massive scale. The permutations of lives lived well are endless. The regal and brave grandmothers and grandfathers who look after orphaned grandchildren in a brave and spirited manner in some of the poorest parts of the globe. The ones who sacrifice time and resources to uplift needy communities are often towering giants of generosity. A small endeavour can have a lasting impact. To look beyond ourselves is the way to impact destiny. Write a story today that will leave a lasting legacy for future generations:)
