QUESTION FROM A COACH – WHAT'S YOUR BEST TECHNIQUE TO GET TO A CORE ISSUE?
Jennifer Powers, MA, MCC Mentor Coach
Founder of Powerhouse Coaching and passionate about supporting coaches to earn their credentials and become the best in the world.
Question – How do you dig below the surface with your client and get to what really matters?
Jennifer – First, as a coach?it helps?to?work on your?fearlessness. And that's more of that “being state” which I talk so much about which is where the coach needs to be in order to?feel more comfortable asking the deeper (more intimate) questions.
When you fear “LESS” about being too personal or offending the client, you are going to be so much more efficient with the client′s time (and money).?Thus,?you′re not?spending a lot of time?dancing around the bush,?building?rapport,?and?keeping it light and superficial.?You′re not spending time?asking about the details of the story or the background. Instead,?you are boldly and unapologetically?asking those big, deep inquiry questions that?many?coaches are afraid to ask.
Second, trust in the client. Trust that the client can handle the big questions. That’s what is going to create the big shifts.?Believe in their ability to find the answers and they will start to believe it too!
And?finally,?follow the client. Don’t be searching out there in the abyss for your next best question. Instead, let the client lead and follow where the client is going. Remember, the client is the leader, and you always follow the leader. Therefore, if a client is responding to a question with “X”, your next question is about “X”.
Super easy. Super fun, right?
