Question Everything...
Welcome back.
Last week, I challenged you to figure out how to get off the hamster wheel and stop saying / thinking / doing, "We've always done it this way."
Today, many people we know (could be you) are waking up after a year, many years, or even decades working for the "same" company only to have received "the call" from HR and/or your manager letting you know your job is no longer needed due to [insert cover-their-ass-message-here].
Gut Punch.
I know.
Note: If you have NOT experienced this in your career at least once, know it will most-likely-eventually-happen so you can read this in anticipation and to get an idea of what to do when it happens.
So.
Now your friends and colleagues who are in this situation are able to really reflect on the question, "What Next?"
People (you or your friends and colleagues) who are experiencing this today don't have to ask how to get off that hamster wheel.
The choice to get off the hamster wheel has been taken off the table.
The Problem:?What Next?
This week, imagine you and I are hanging out on Zoom.
You know. Because.
Oh and it's probably a free account because your corporate one no longer works. Small things you start to notice.
ME: "Hey, how are you?"
YOU: "Gut Punch. Not feeling like talking today."
And.
I am here to listen.
The Actionable Tip: Question Everything
Read that actionable tip once again (even if you are not in the same boat as some of our peers today).
But first.
Allow some time to process this.
And.
Remember... YOU are not your JOB or your "old" role.
The opportunity to do whatever you want is ahead of you.
And.
It's there every day.
It'll be there tomorrow.
Your Next Step...
Think about the problem I've described and my actionable tip above.
Here is the part where?I need YOU contribute YOUR actionable tip?for others who are reading this short article....
Please share ONE actionable tip in the comments below about how you've processed being "let go" and what you and I can do to help others in that boat today.
Thank you.
Michael Vizdos
PS: I am here. Reach out if you want to talk / me listen. If not me, there are others here too. You are not alone.

1 年While I am presently in the "I have a job" camp, I have been through this situation before and it led me to a string of starting my own businesses...something I highly recommend considering. Additionally, my firm -- Veracity Consulting Group -- is very actively looking for great folks and you can find our open roles here: https://www.meetveracity.com/careers/. As is our parent co, RGP, their open roles are here: https://careers.rgp.com/. Please apply and spread the word if you feel you're a fit and/or feel free to message me directly.
Open you eyes (observation) before verbally inquiring. Verbalization only creates emotional reactions.... reclusive, argumentative negative realization, barriers...). Is it not a casecwe arexalways there for others? Especially with all the hype about teams and collaboration? If that is the case then we might look deeper whether these paradigms are nothing more than popular labels.
