The question to ask to reduce the amount of meetings you have...
For the question: jump to the end ????
In The Practice ‘shipping creative work’ Seth Godin challenges the concept of meetings;
What’s it for?
We have a meeting at 4:00 p.m.
Okay, what's it for?
Well, we always have this meeting.
So, the "what's-it-for" is: It's easier to maintain the status quo than to risk not having the meeting.?What the meeting is for is making sure that the people who like having the meeting aren't upset.
I’ve had a few conversations with people this week frustrated at the level of meetings they have to attend (and the pressure to travel to do them ‘in person’)
This funny, not so funny TiKTok kind of rings true for many…?
Which bring me on to the question to ask to reduce the amount of meetings you have...via Judy Rees and her question when meetings are suggested,
‘Can the outcome of this meeting be achieved asynchronously’??
If yes - then instead of meeting to talk about the work to then do the work - just do the work?
It takes a bit of bravery to pose this as it does challenge the status quo but once asked - it's like a firecracker of enlightenment.
