So you and I know the questions we’ve covered so far are:
- Where are you now?
- 2. How did you get here?
- 3. Where are you going?
Now we need to answer question #4
Which is:
WHY do I want to go there?
This is probably the most important question we ever
ask and then answer for ourselves.
Why?
Well, because – the answers to this question drive our
emotions. And it’s our emotions, which are the final
arbiters as to whether or not we take action.
Emotion creates Motion
There are so many expressions about ‘why’
“With a strong enough why – the what and how appear”
“If you don’t know why – you probably won’t try”
“He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how”
Friedrich Nietzsche
And I believe they’ll all true.
The answers to ‘why’ give us clarity and without clarity
only stuttering of action takes place.
Once we know the reasons why we’ve decided to take the actions
to attain the goal, to reach the prize, to plant our flag atop the
mountain of our choice – then heaven and earth will need to send
some pretty big storms to stop is getting there.
Now getting the why…
Is not always an easy journey in and of itself.
It takes brutal self-honesty. Not the wishy washy platitudes
of lecture land – oh no! But a long hard look at ourselves and
a heavy dose of reality-check thrown in.
Why do you want that goal?
And Peter - don’t you dare tell me – because of the money!
Money is the silent applause for a job well done – nothing more!
And – what will you experience along the road to the goal?
Is that the real reason for the journey – or is the destination
the important part.
Both can be the reason – despite the common assertion that
‘success is a journey and not a destination’ Ye,s it can be but
it’s NOT the only definition.
Cervantes asserted it too: “The road is better than the inn”
Yes it can be – but I’ve experienced some fabulous inns at
the end of very muddy and pitted roads!
And more…
Why are you prepared to pay the price for a successful
completion or achievement?
What are you prepared to give up?
All of these questions…
And more you’ll think of are the secret essence of establishing
The
WHY?
Will you take the time to discover your why?
Every second spent on that uncovering will be paid back
handsomely and many fold over the rest of your life.
That’s why success is so simple. Because there are thousands
who say they want it but they won’t spend but a few hours
of all their hours – to know why!
You will?
Go on then
