Navigating the often-binary world with its stark contrasts, especially when confronting the dark patterns in shadows of humanity like Nuclear Holocaust and other tools of apathy wielded through existential fear, isn't exactly what I'd call a walk in the park. As a queer Jew especially, I’m not a fan of fear, to be honest. As my favorite identity,?“Papa,” trying to raise a bright-eyed 12-year-old, I'm all in for our shared imaginary universes, where the dark tales of human wickedness aren't the go-to for bedtime stories, but a node in a tapestry, our curated lattice of learning. ?But no way am I signing up to be part of a world that uses the grim and the gruesome as some kind of twisted, non-consensual teaching or communication aid.

Thankfully we can click to hide, but unfortunately, we cannot unsee.

Let's talk about the might of images and symbols we sling on LinkedIn for a sec. They're potent, right? Let’s know this and maybe consider much more carefully our role in symbolic image wizardry.? Reading history can give sensitive people nightmares.? If you’re not scared by the gruesome reality of humanity’s inhumane, you’re likely trending sociopathic.? That fear should motivate us all towards pluralistic mutualism as we achieve planetary bioresilience and more coherence among our many unique cultures.?

Love trends towards unifying, but we’re scared. Why, could it be by design?

Images can scare the bejeezus out of us, drive us straight into the waiting arms of the so-called heroes promising salvation. This whole deal with thought leaders spinning tales with these symbols—it's pretty much a way to keep the reins tight. Control central.? Thoughts, behaviors, attitudes, all the strings lead up from our transient and apparent mental models of reality to the governing structural puppet masters. ?Speed metal thrashers Metallica were not wrong and used their awareness of the structural governance system to preach the more hardcore words. They set themselves free to enrichment and Metal God status, obviously. Power of shock in imagery makes overt symbological art.

Yet, here's the kicker: by flipping the script on these fear-fueled narratives, we dodge the bullets of doom and gloom, and other laser pixels aimed for our eyeballs of irrationality. Instead, we get to build a place where understanding, empathy, and a whole lot of love for our fellow humans set the tone. ?Tasteful choices, uplifting and motivating through hope become our art. Fecundity and power of grace in curvaceous softness as our key weapon for cocreative progress.? Birth of live and love making, seem to bring more hope and reality of creation.?

Literality trumps symbology, every time.

Think about it: if apathy was just dead weight, we wouldn't have societies and all their rules. Passion and art kills! ?(Kings!) ?But, oh boy, do these systems love to loop back on themselves, shaping us as we shape them. It's like this cosmic dance of dreaming and doing, where what we focus on, we bring to life. Use that cycle to turn your worst (don’t share with me, please) nightmares into tools for rising above and finding grace, and you've got yourself a recipe for a wholesome vibe. Get it wrong, though, and it's a one-way ticket to gloomsville.

From anxiety and apathy fused, we’d feel our heartbeat race, and see a click-chain driving us to their church of thought leadership. Being saved of work, and effort makes evolutionary sense, and we lounge in our langor with ease of forgetting.? Those with the answers bring food to our plate, they nourish.? To me, and to many others, symbols and depictions purvey by other humans are not merely images; they are tools. Used by some to cultivate a sense of apathy, they can stir fear and uncertainty. They may aim. To make us feel lost, in a world of semantic ambiguity, convincing us that perfectionism is an unattainable goal without their guidance, that we are devoid of the omnipresence and power inherently ours. But this manipulation of our fears, this push towards irrationality, serves a purpose only in the realms of poetry, love, and motion—not in the spheres of business and governance where it becomes a vehicle for apathy by design.
