In Quest for “Food for All” Manna Food Center Elects New Leadership

At its annual meeting last month, the Manna Food Center Board of Directors elected a new slate of officers and welcomed three new members. Working to implement key provisions of its 2017-2020 Strategic Plan, the Board has been focused on recruiting members to expand geographic, income, and gender diversity, as well as attract new skill sets and expertise.

Mitchell Glassman, a Bank Resolution and Distressed Asset Management Advisor, assumed the role of Chair of the Board and Lisa Davis, Senior Vice President, No Kid Hungry campaign at Share Our Strength, is now Rising Chair. Jorge Espinosa, Senior Commercial Lender at TD Bank Group, recently began Treasurer. Selena Mendy Singleton, Chief Operating Officer at NAFEO, continues as an Officer in the role of Past Chair.  “As an organization with a 35 year history of serving the community, Manna Food Center relies on the volunteer service of dedicated professionals. I’m so proud that these officers have taken the helm at this important stage of our evolution,” said CEO, Jackie DeCarlo.

DeCarlo noted that as Manna shifts its work from social safety net provider to community change agent, it is important to welcome strong leadership with fresh perspectives. “I’m very gratified that our newest Board members will help us build on existing skill sets—like good governance--while also deepening our community engagement and fundraising capacities.” Lorna Forde, small business owner, brings broad knowledge of local communities.  Partner at Lanigan Ryan, P.S., Jason Mills, is an expert in not-for-profit finances. As Manna’s facilities and fundraising expands, Jessica Nardi, Director of Administration at The Universities at Shady Grove, offers a proven track-record in the sector with a deep commitment to a just food system.

Currently Manna serves approximately half—32,710—of Montgomery County residents who are experiencing food insecurity. With a focus on being participant-centered and data-driven, Manna has identified 20 priority census tracks for innovative services.  The Board of Directors will be key to maintaining a sustainable, values based business model through its expansion.
