The Quest
For a while, I have been wondering what to publish here. So much has happened, and the best way I can describe it is via using the photograph above - foggy. Many times I have felt stuck, can't see what's ahead. But, the better way to describe it may be 'the quest.'
Since the last post I published here, https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/when-seemingly-obvious-becomes-complicated-abby-ndutah?trk=prof-post, where I was supposed to follow give an update the following week, my professional life has been on a very rocky patch.
Reality
The first blow came when I actually took my first ever web development project. I was confident I could do it. I had done it for my personal website. Excited, and with quite a short deadline, I began. This is when reality struck me. There were aspects of customization I had not mastered. My heart sank. The fog was beginning to form.
Mistakes
The project actually began on a wrong note. After spending hours going through hundreds of templates, me and my client settled on three. After a vote, mine won. It was a very responsive theme. A win?
When we agreed on the theme, there was an ongoing offer with 30% off. "Let's buy it now", the client advised. But after going through hundreds of templates, our concentration had decreased significantly.
That evening, a gut-feeling. I checked the templates, and oops, they were back to normal price. Now with a pending loss, I sat down and weighed my options. I could get a 15% discount or ask the client to add me some more cash. After fighting quite hard, the latter won. There was still hope in the horizon.
With a short deadline to beat, and with content to be developed, I had to face it. I asked a few friends in the IT field to help me out. I finally got one to help me out. That is when I realized that I had actually not done a very good job on my site.
Needless to say, the project was successful, and the launch was way amazing than I expected. Talk about causing a stir on Facebook. For a whole week, there was so much engagement on the page.
Navigation
I have so many mini-stories of 'the quest' to share here. I don't want to write all of them in the same post, since they may look very disjointed. Over the next few weeks, look out for some more of my quest stories. For now, I am navigating this tough journey of web development, entrepreneurship and content development. Think this was a nice post? Share it. Comment. Like it. Let's talk more about our quests, won't we?
