Queensland's Economic Recovery Strategy
This week in parliament I outlined the Economic Recovery Strategy for Queensland, with one priority - jobs.
This strategy is about building new infrastructure Queensland needs, supporting those sectors of our economy hit hardest, and providing more assistance to small business to support jobs. The Strategy also identifies private projects which deliver maximum long term economic benefit for Queensland by investing in our traditional and emerging industries.
Building vital infrastructure
Through additional funding for the Works for Queensland program and Round 5 of Building Our Regions, we're building community infrastructure right across Queensland to create thousands of jobs.
Check out projects funded in partnership with 39 local councils under Round 5 of Building Our Regions: https://www.dsdmip.qld.gov.au/regions/economic-development/building-our-regions/funded-projects.html
$400 million has been allocated to accelerate our regional road maintenance plan. You can see the list of funded and new projects here: https://statements.qld.gov.au/Statement/2020/5/19/400m-road-stimulus-package-to-supercharge-jobs-qld-economy
Supporting our tourism sector
$50 million towards fast track new tourism projects, including $7 million in tourism marketing to back this critical sector: https://statements.qld.gov.au/Statement/2020/5/19/queensland-tourism-boost-to-unite-and-recover-from-covid19
Assistance for small business
Investing $100 million towards training and grants to assist small businesses impacted by COVID-19. Small and micro businesses can access up to $10,000 to help pay financial, legal and other professional services: https://www.business.qld.gov.au/starting-business/advice-support/grants/adaption

Investing in emerging industries
$50 million to drive more Queensland manufacturing in the biomedical and health sector: https://www.statedevelopment.qld.gov.au/industry/personal-protective-equipment-ppe.html
Recent months have shown Queensland manufactures stepping up to fight COVID-19 by making PPE and medical devices and this investment will expand production capacity to support more jobs in the supply chain.
We're also progressing approvals for Kalfresh to develop a $50 million agricultural industrial food precinct. This new 40 hectare hub integrates fresh food processing and packaging to support the region's agricultural sector and Southern Queensland as Australia's food bowl: https://statements.qld.gov.au/Statement/2020/5/19/50m-scenic-rim-foodprecinct-proposal-open-for-public-comment
CopperString 2.0
A $14.8 million investment to progress the CopperString 2.0 project to provide cheaper power and facilitate new investment in the North West Minerals Province. The project will deliver a 1,100 kilometre high-voltage transmission line to see the national electricity grid to extend from Townsville across the North to Mount Isa: https://statements.qld.gov.au/Statement/2020/5/19/copperstring-to-power-jobs-and-wealth-creation-for-nq

4 年Hi Annastacia, I'm having trouble finding cross-border travel information at the moment. Can your team please publish something? Thanks! E.g. NSW to QLD and VIC etc. no clear readily found info - :)
While all and any economic stimulus is good given the current climate, a large number of the projects in the new stimulus proposal released 19 May create less than 50/100 jobs on an individual level eg “$15 million Centenary Motorway and Logan Motorway interchange upgrade – 15 jobs” ? If you really want to super charge the economy and provide jobs it might be worth actually building the state water pipeline, Stanthorpe and Traveston dams and rail line to Toowoomba as a start. These are all future thinking projects that have all been put off for years and are actually desperately needed. ?

4 年It is great to see the strategy putting more money into fever clinics, emergency department capacity, acute care services and regional aeromedical services for remote communities.
