Queensland Regional Wind Records set on Tuesday 9 May 2023
Last week we saw Queensland record a late in the season instantaneous Utility Solar Share maximum of 30.2% at 9:10 hrs on Mon 01 May 2023 [0].
This morning (Tue 08 May 2023) at 00:10 hrs, Queensland Regional Wind recorded a maximum instantaneous output of 694.7 MW, up slightly by 2.4 MW from the previous record of 692.4 MW set at 01:30 hrs on Wed 21-12-2022.?
With sustained wind levels across eastern Australia the last few days, Queensland Wind also recorded a maximum Rolling 1 Day Mean record of 608.6 MW at 01:50 hrs this morning (Tue 08 May 2023).
Looking at the Queensland Wind weekly maximum unit outputs since wind generation entered the Queensland Market on 12 Aug 2018, we can track the history of wind generation in Queensland. First to be commissioned was the 180 MW Mount Emerald Wind Farm [1], followed by Coopers Gap (453 MW on 02 Jun 2019) [2], Kennedy Park (43 MW on 20 Jun 2021) [3], Kaban (152 MW on 05 Sep 2022) [4] and Dulacca (173 MW on 02 Apr 2023) [5]. Mount Emerald, Coopers Gap and Kennedy Park have reached their maximum outputs while Kaban is still at half it's rated capacity and the recently commissioned Dulacca is moving through it's hold points.
Queensland has been late to install Wind generation compared to all other Regions who have all had some wind generation since AEMO started publicly publishing NEM Unit outputs in November 2010. The trajectory of each Regions maximum instantaneous output is shown below along with Queenslands (see inset which includes the Rolling 1 Day Mean records). We can see Victoria (green line in the main graph) has had a 80% increase (1,836 to 3,305 MW) in it's wind capacity since May 2020. We also expect to see more Qld Wind records as Dulacca moves up to its rated capacity.
