Quebec
Quebec is situated in the east of Canada and is the largest of all the Canadian provinces, it is also the only region where French is spoken as the predominant language. The province is practically surrounded by water and is home to the beautiful cities of Montreal & Quebec City, as well as various mountain ranges and stunning resorts, such as Mont Sainte Anne and Mont Tremblant.
Montreal - a city of culture and colour that changes with the seasons, French-speaking Montreal is a lively destination and perfect for visitors who want to immerse themselves in authentic Canada. Festivals such as the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal and the Franco Folies are major events in the calendar, as is the Formula One Grand Prix and the winter’s Montreal en Lumiere. Boasting the largest number of restaurants per resident in North America, Montreal is a food lovers paradise, from fast-food specialities to high quality gastronomy, food is an essential part of city life. Take an Entire Old Montreal Walking Tour to really experience the history and grandeur of the old town, as you walk through 17th century cobbled streets, taking in such sights as the Notre-Damme Basillica, Cours le Royer, Place Jacques-Cartier and Champ de Mars. Sample the breathtaking Laurentian Mountains, where only an hours drive from Montreal, you can explore quaint villages, lush forests and a thousand freshwater lakes. My favourite hotel here is the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth - situated above Montreal Central Train Station and a feature of the city since 1958, this beautiful hotel is an eclectic mix of art deco design, antique furnishings and retro nostalgia.
Quebec City - here visitors will find a variety of fabulous museums, theatres, galleries, amazing restaurants, cafes and a vibrant nightlife. Take a tour of Old Quebec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, being the only walled city north of Mexico in the Americas. A stay at Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is a must, this impressive castle like building is perched on the top of a headland overlooking the St Lawrence River. The Quebec Winter Carnival is one of the world’s major winter festivals and takes place at the end of January every year, offering a wide variety of activities and displays to thrill and entertain all ages. French influence is evident throughout the whole city, especially in the cuisine, whether it be cretans, poutine or pea soup washed down with a local craft beer or the finest top-end cuisine, such as that on offer at the world famous Saint-Amour. Head to the Parade la Chute-Montgomery for the best views and photo opportunities of these amazing falls.
If you would like to experience French Canada at its finest, then let us build in a stay at these two wonderful cities, they will give the perfect contrast between the different provinces of this magnificent country.
