"My name is Sam, I am Syrian, studying business in Canada.
Being away from home, my family and my comfort zone has helped me reflect. One thing that I am grateful for most is my freedom, being trapped in one place for too long really allows you to appreciate all the things you could be doing. I’m also grateful that I don’t live far away from my little sister as times like these are much easier when you have someone .
Something that I really miss is home. The United Arab Emirates (my home) feels so far while being in Canada. All the airports are closed which makes you feel like you’re stuck. I was looking forward to changing scenery and returning to the warm weather I know and familiar with, seeing my family, my friends and my loved ones.
Due to the current situation, one thing that I will do differently is be cautious about my surroundings and up my hygiene as you never know when a situation like this may occur again.
Despite the somber current situation, I have many hopes and dreams for the future. I really do hope that the virus has a solution soon as many problems are occurring. I am also really hoping that the world goes back to normal and everyone gets their freedom back, as well as their daily life routines. I hope that the current quarantine situation doesn’t affect my education as students aren’t able to take regular classes due to the circumstances."
