Quarantine? Tick Off the List

(ORIGINALLY WRITTEN BY SAPNA KAPPAL ON WWW.EXPRESSLIVELY.COM)

Now that nearly the entire world is under quarantine, we’re obviously getting bored inside our houses. Not being able to see our friends or eat at your favourite restaurant is really testing our patience. This is also a time when everyone is putting up things to do during quarantine on social media platforms. So here’s a blog with things that you can do to pass time while under lockdown.

Try new trends on the internet, just for fun

Most of the trends on the internet aren’t about being helpful or productive, they’re simply for entertainment and fun. A few things that are really hot right now are the infamous Dalgona coffee. While a lot of people are trying it out just for the sake of putting it up on the internet and getting the clout they deserve for sitting and beating that coffee for ages, a lot of people are critical of it. “Real coffee drinkers don’t put sugar or milk in their coffee” is the most popular criticism that I have seen on the internet. Well, dear real coffee drinkers, admit it, you did it for the gram too. Other than that, what are “real” coffee drinkers? Let people drink their coffee how ever they want to.

Other than dalgona coffee, the number of people on TikTok, as creators or watchers, is insane. There are a number of viral dances going on on TikTok that you can learn and record, a few of them chill while others make you do a whole workout. People are also taking to TikTok to show people how they are spending their time in quarantine. Some people suggest different workouts while others talk about learning a new skill.

Tick everything off of that list

We all have a list of books to read, movies and TV shows to watch and songs to listen to. We disregarded this list and the only thing that we did was add more things to it. Well, if you really don’t have anything to do, start reading the books that interest you. Binge watch the TV show your best friend has been asking you to watch for months. Watch the movie series that everyone criticises you for not watching yet.

Other than movies and books, we also happen to have the less appealing to-do list of things. This list includes things like “complete two chapters of history” or “solve 10 math sums”. Now that you have endless time on your hands, make it a little productive. Make the subjects that you were weak at stronger, in my case it was maths. Prepare for any competitive exams that you were planning to give in the future. If you’re applying to universities next year, keep your research for where you want to go ready. It would make things easier when you start filling out applications.

Learn something new during quarantine

The most resourceful place for you right now is the internet, so go on there and learn a new skill. It could be baking, sketching, making slime, anything that you possibly want to learn. Maybe wanting to learn how to play the piano was on your mind but you didn’t have the time to do it. Well, now you just need to look up a good video on YouTube. You can also attend online classes that everyone is conducting on apps like Zoom. Watch TED talks, widen your horizon with knowledge. Most importantly, stay updated about the current situation in the world, especially in your country or region.

Interact with new people

I know talking to unknown people over the internet isn’t the safest thing to do. Many people may refrain from it, but you always have the option of maintaining anonymity if you don’t feel comfortable. Other than that, several platforms are actually a very safe place to get to know new people and make friends, like Bumble.

Do something crazy

People are doing crazy things under lockdown because they know that they don’t have to go out in public for a while. The most famous thing people are doing are dyeing their hair at home, cutting bangs, even shaving all their hair off. It’s not the best thing to do, but you do spend a good amount of time thinking of doing it, buying the necessary items, rethinking your choices, almost not doing it, deciding to do it anyway, taking time to figure out how to do it, finally doing it and either loving or hating it. Then, the next steps depend on whether you love it or hate it. People who dye their hair and instantly love it take to social media and call all their friends. People who bleach their hair and end up losing them have a mental breakdown, take to social media to tell people what not to do and vow to never do something like that.

Finally, the things you can do include going crazy, learning new TikTok dances, getting trendy, meeting new people and binge watching television. Most importantly, take care of yourself and people around you and stay put. Going out during the recommended quarantine would only put you and everyone around you in danger. Governments have asked us to self quarantine for a reason and we must respect it. Forget about being rebellious or hating on the government and just do your part by staying in. Don’t forget to appreciate all the people who are risking their lives to help us such as medical staff and security guards.
