Quantum DSA-A New Technique Does Not Require Holding Breath for Moving Organs

Organs that move?or cause movement, such as the lungs, are always an issue during angiograph-subtracted image acquisition.?In the case of the trans-arterial chemoembolization (TACE) procedure, technicians in the control room often talk to patients through the intercom?to tell them to hold their breath for six to ten seconds. If the patient is breathing?during scanning,?the diaphragm and entire liver will move up and down, causing the subtracted angiography process to fail. Images would be?blurred and show "unclean" subtraction for the angiography.

It is often difficult for patients to hold their breath, especially for those who suffer from hepatic cancer. They also must?endure the process while contrast agents have been injected, along with the chemo-pharmaceuticals they have to endure. Again, if the images are not being subtracted properly, the technicians will often ask patients to hold their breath again to repeat the entire process of the digital subtracted angiography process. Once?the physicians are satisfied with the image, they may be able to use the image to find out how the liver tumors are distributed in the patient's?body. If the subtracted image is blurred, the technician will either retake the image again or?accept the blurred images. This issue often causes a long procedure time.?

With?Quantum DSA,?the technicians do not need to ask the patients to control their breath while taking the subtracted angiography. The system's artificial intelligence algorithm will now calculate and compensate for the artifacts caused by spontaneous breathing by patients. The system will remove?all possible traces of?movement from?the organs, usually the lung or liver, and use subtraction multiplication to complete the subtracted angiography process to provide a clean background for the subtracted angiography.?This process?will further improve the clinical image quality and help doctors have a clear vision of the distribution of tumors in the liver. Quantum DSA can also be beneficial for any procedures containing moving organs, like lung puncture ablation or renal subtracted angiography. NeuAngio DSA, now an angiography system, does not ask patients to control their breath in exchange for better clinical images.
