It’s easy to get caught up in the buzz of vanity metrics like the number of connections you have. You can have all the followers in the world, but if you don’t meaningfully engage with them, neither of you get value from the relationship. Here are three actionable steps to take to increase the quality of your network.

1?? Define your networking objectives

When building a platform personalized to your goals, it’s important to keep your intentions clear. Whether you're seeking out people to chat with, finding a new mentor, or sourcing clients for your business, differentiating the approach you take when networking can make all the difference. Write down 3-5 objectives you have for your personal brand to help guide your efforts.?


2?? Stay updated with the content shared amongst your network?

While it's easy to scroll through what can feel like an endless feed, regularly engaging with your networks’ posts demonstrates a willingness to contribute to the conversation. Commenting can look like asking questions, providing insights within your realm of expertise, or simply showing support to a friend in the industry. Through engagement, you build your brand up as an active member of your community (and get rewarded by the algorithm for doing so). Search for 3-5 topics in your niche and comment on 3-5 posts in those categories each day. In as little as 15 minutes per day, you can stay connected with your industry.


3?? Add Value?

The idea of wanting to help others in your network can seem like a vague place to start. Take on bringing value back to your connections by sharing resources useful to those around you. This can look like carefully curated and personally reviewed blog articles, industry reports, and workshops/courses you know to be supportive and beneficial. Making introductions for those who might be potential partners or clients can help two people in your network at once.??
