Quality Inspection Report for Electronic Components

Insights from White Horse Laboratories, June 2024

White Horse Laboratories is pleased to share our June 2024 Quality Report, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to excellence in electronics testing and analysis. This past month, we've identified key trends and developments in our testing activities, showcasing our robust capabilities and adaptability in meeting industry demands.

Testing Volume and Focus

In June, MOSFETs and MCUs remained the primary electronic components tested at White Horse. While MOSFET testing accounted for the largest share (6.8%), it decreased from 7.7% in the previous month. Conversely, microcontroller (MCU) testing rose slightly to 6.8%, equal to MOSFETs this month. FPGAs (4.6%) and diodes (4.2%) followed in volume.

Brand Dynamics

Texas Instruments (TI) and Analog Devices were the leading brands of electronic components tested in our lab in June. TI's prominence is well-established, while Analog Devices, headquartered in Massachusetts, USA, is a top manufacturer of high-performance analog integrated circuits (ICs), widely used in analog signal and digital signal processing fields.

Following these were brands such as NXP, Xilinx (now part of AMD), Microchip Technology, and Murata. This month, the "others" category, which includes brands with less than 1% share, dropped to 38.7% from 48.8% in May, indicating the continued dominance of major traditional brands in the semiconductor market.

Testing Methodologies and Results

In June, the distribution of test types at White Horse Labs was consistent, with nearly a quarter being visual inspections, followed by solderability tests, X-ray, functionality tests, and decapsulation as significant testing categories. Additional methods included HCT, SAM & SEM, cross-sectioning, and failure analysis.

Regarding test outcomes, 76% of the results were acceptable, a slight decline from 80% in May. Unacceptable results increased to 8.3% (up from 6.9% in May), suggesting a rise in samples not meeting specifications or suspected of being counterfeit. Furthermore, 15.8% of the tests recommended further in-depth testing after initial completion.

At White Horse Laboratories, our unwavering commitment to excellence in electronic component testing continues. The increase in testing for essential components like MOSFETs, MCUs, and FPGAs underscores our critical role in advancing energy-efficient and intelligent control systems. Our thorough evaluation of components highlights our expertise in managing a wide range of high-demand products. By utilizing a balanced mix of testing methodologies, from visual inspections to advanced decapsulation analysis, we deliver accurate and reliable results that our clients can depend on.

We encourage you to explore how our comprehensive testing solutions can enhance your quality assurance strategies and contribute to your project's success. We value your feedback and look forward to sharing more insights with you next month. Stay connected with us for the latest updates in quality assurance and electronics testing.
