Qualified vs Experience
I remember the day I passed my driving test – 14 December 1989 – very clearly.?
I was now “free”. No longer was I restricted to cycling in and around my village, Wingfield in Suffolk .?
But that’s not my abiding memory of that day. This is.?
On the evening I passed I decided to go to Great Yarmouth dogs, borrowing my mother’s Mitsubishi Shogun for the first time.?
Just outside Yarmouth I executed a four-wheel skid at 40 mph through a set of red lights very nearly causing a huge accident.?
The Shogun’s power, the lack of an instructor paying attention for me and the deluge I was driving in, all counted against me.
Thankfully, the other drivers were paying due care and attention, and carnage was avoided.?
Qualified I was, experienced I wasn’t.?
When it comes to looking after other people’s money, qualifications are important but experience counts.?
Until you have done the reps, until you have lived and learned, you run the risk of causing a huge accident.?
One you may not avoid as luckily as I did.

I know who I'd want holding the scalpel. The experienced surgeon every day of the week. There is no substitute for experience.
