Here is my tech rant on the news that caught my eye across the AOPG tech news network in the last week.

Twilio Invests in Enhanced Interoperability with Data Platforms and Data Warehouses with the Launch of Linked Audiences

Let’s jump into Data Storage Asean and top marks to Twilio for NEARLY keeping those two letters out of their press release discussing linked audiences.? They did so well, I was nearly 2 paragraphs in before the dreaded AI was mentioned.? But in fairness to Twilio, it was mentioned only in passing and the press release actually had real substance explaining technology they are using to handle data at scale. Bottom line is they are offering integrations that enable you to track an audience across disparate and separate platforms. Knowing when the same person touches different and unconnected systems is powerful and potentially valuable in the pursuit of offering personalisation in the digital world.

So I applaud this announcement from Twilio, because first they avoided the obvious temptation to talk about how AI will transform the audience paradigm etc etc etc ???and second it’s an interesting development worth reading about. Which you can do so at this link.

The Rising Challenge of AI-Enhanced Identity Fraud

Next on to cybersecurity Asean – where AMAZINGLY there is an article from Johan Fantenberg from Ping Identity which starts by talking about AI (Arrgggggg!!), but is actually still worth a read.

I am not going soft on the overuse of AI, but I like this article because its not making claims about how Ping are using AI to save the world, but because it’s highlighting a practical misuse of AI (deep fake identity fraud) and giving clear advice about what we need to do to counter this very scary threat.? ?The threat is real for businesses but also for personal individuals. Learning how to identify and potential deep fakes is something we all need to know.

Johan writes “The necessity of remaining vigilant and sceptical is fundamental. Individuals and organisations must critically assess and verify the legitimacy of information before acting upon it.” ?This is so true and something we need to drum into everyone, we cannot accept what we see online at face value, we need to start from a position of scepticism ?and check the veracity of what we see. if you have not started thinking about how deep fakes could be used against you or your organisation, have a read of this article – it will get you thinking for sure.

Qlik AI Council Warns: AI Adoption Risky Sans Data Integrity

And finally my pick from Disruptive Tech News ……please help me !

I guess It’s a sign of the times, i couldn’t find one new article of press release that didn’t include AI in its headline this week. That included totally separate but remarkably similar announcements from chip manufacturers Intel, AMD and Nvidia about how they are powering the AI revolution.

So what to pick out? I have opted for this release by Qlik – headlined “Qlik AI Council Warns: AI Adoption Risky Sans Data Integrity”. Why they needed felt the need to replace the word “Without” with its French equivalent in their press announcement title is a bit baffling, but hey, perhaps I am nit picking.

However, this release broke one of the absolute “no no’s” for me when it comes to press announcements. Namely please don’t proudly tell us something that is absolutely obvious. In the case Qlik bring us the revelation that if your data is bad, your AI results will be bad also.? Really? It’s lucky ?they thought to tell us this otherwise we would never have known.

Sorry Qlik, but this is not worthy to highlight your press announcement, we have being saying for years (well before AI was on everyone’s lips) that when it comes to data it’s a case of “garbage in garbage out” (gigo)

?And unfortunately I need to apply this concept (gigo) to this announcement itself – there is nothing contained here, that we haven’t been reading about literally every day for about the last 6 months.

The time for talking about AI at a high level is now gone, and this article pretty much cements that for me.

Yes, talk about new features you are launching and if you must mention they are due to AI, then OK, but high level claptrap about responsible AI, integrity of AI, how you will be left behind if you don’t use AI……ENOUGH!! Maybe you disagree with me – take a look at the announcement here to decide for yourself.

I still think you should have run this entire article through ChatGPT just to fix up the extra spaces, missing punctuation etc. if you’re going to obsess about AI or the overuse of AI, why not show responsible use of AI by letting it clean up your stream of consciousness self-described rant so it’s simply clean and tidy? Is that too much to ask? Also “sans” is in the Oxford Dictionary and its use is to catch the eye. It worked! You spent a whole paragraph conplaining about it.
