Qantas Engine Failure Sparks Grassfire at Sydney Airport
A Qantas Boeing 737, flight QF520 to Brisbane, experienced a right-hand engine failure shortly after departing Sydney Airport, New South Wales, Australia, around 1 p.m. on November 8, 2024, forcing an emergency return. The engine malfunction reportedly sparked a grassfire adjacent to Runway 34R, which was contained by Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Service and Fire and Rescue NSW, though the incident caused visible smoke plumes and delays at the airport. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has launched an investigation to determine the causes of the engine failure, with Qantas engineers confirming a contained failure and no injuries reported among the 174 passengers onboard. British Airways A380 Returns to London Due to In-Flight Engine Shut Down
A British Airways Airbus A380-800, flight BA-207 from London Heathrow, UK to Miami, FL, USA, returned to Heathrow shortly after takeoff on November 6, 2024, following an in-flight shutdown of one of its Trent 970 engines due to an oil leak. After reaching FL130, the crew stopped the climb, entered a holding pattern over the English Channel south of Portsmouth, shut down the affected engine, dumped fuel, and safely landed on Heathrow's runway 27R approximately 3.5 hours post-departure. SARPcheck global aviation safety audit: A wet lease, codeshare, ACMI Booster
SARPcheck is a new global aviation safety audit that assesses airline compliance with select ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) across defined ICAO Annexes. The primary aim of this audit is to enhance global flight safety while providing an affordable and accessible tool to facilitate ACMI, wet lease, and codeshare operations. The ICAO Annexes and SARPs that SARPcheck focuses on are specifically those outlined by regulatory and industry standards, including FAA requirements for overseeing foreign air carriers and the TCO approval elements of EASA.
SARPcheck is governed by a London-based not-for-profit organization, the Safety Audit Review Partnership (SARP Ltd.), which accredits Safety Quality Organizations (SQOs) such as AEROTHRIVE to conduct these audits globally. Detailed information about the program, including the SARPcheck Program Manual (SCPM), informative brochures, and the latest updates, is available on our website at https://aerothrive.com/audits/sarpcheck-audits/ . For further inquiries or personal assistance, please feel free to send me a message. I'm always happy to help! Lufthansa City Airlines is the global launch customer of SARPcheck.
