Q&A with Tiffany Nida Director, Seller Fulfillment Systems

Tell us a little about yourself?

I joined Amazon in 2012 in our core Retail business, managing a P&L. So far in my Amazon career journey I’ve worked on five different businesses, dozens of different roles, functions, and business opportunities along the way.?I have worked with economists, scientists, engineers, data analysts, product managers, technical program managers, account managers and salespeople. I never could have imagined getting to build businesses like low selling price solutions for core consumables, designing and building experiences and putting the highest-quality service providers into Amazon customer homes. I believe investing in the next generation of fleet technology and climate-saving solutions, is the next generation of fulfillment software for our sellers.?I'm thrilled to be part of Amazon making buying products, delivering parcel shipments unique for shippers.

What is your favorite Amazon memory?

From 2014 to 2016, I was involved in building a new business called ‘Amazon Home Services’ where you could schedule service providers like plumbers and electricians. The primary use case we were solving at the time was buying a product and needing it to be serviced like installing a toilet, mounting a TV or assembling furniture. I joined this team as they were starting to build and define the experience we wanted for our customers. I went through the journey with the team testing, iterating, and eventually publicly launching the business even after post-launch which I exclusively ran. There were so many exciting moments through incubating this product and set of experiences I gained. My most memorable moment with this project is when Jimmy Fallon featured our team post-launch and our goat grazing services. It was so fun to be ‘mainstream’ and so public with our new initiative and we enjoyed the many laughs we gained from his segment!!

What accomplishment(s) at Amazon are you most proud of?

From 2020 to 2022 I led the Middle Mile Fleet team, which is responsible for all the assets and services that provide our long-haul transportation segments network. My team supported everything from trailers, intermodal containers tolls, as well as, other things to power the long-haul fleet including maintenance, and fuel. I am most proud of the moments we had to make some big decisions and investments towards decarbonization and meeting our Climate Pledge and Shipment Zero goals.?Some of those decisions have come to fruition and are now public including our commitment to purchase Compressed Natural Gas Vehicles and invest in Renewable Natural Gas Stations to power them.

How do you foster diversity and inclusion on your team?

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (and Belonging!) are extremely important to me. Fundamentally, I think everyone should have the opportunity to bring their best - and truest self to work every day. I believe everyone is ‘diverse’ in their own unique ways; DE&I+B isn’t just about race or gender but about considering, cultivating, supporting all the backgrounds and identities that make up our employees. Though my team/organization are doing a great job to reach this ideal, I bucket our actions into these three areas: 1) education (roundtables, workshops, newsletters, manager training), 2) specific investment in employees (leadership development programs, group-specific programming), and 3) creating an inclusive environment where employees feel valued and safe to be different in their unique ways (cultural and leadership investments). One example was an opportunity to bring women in Amazon Transportation Services Tech together to support, develop, and connect. This turned into a quarterly event hosted by women across the organization and has brought together hundreds of women over the last year (inaugural event pictured below). There were so many positive and powerful outcomes at this workshop, but simply the forum to be together, learn from fantastic women, and have a moment outside of our day jobs to step back were the highlights from the group.

What brings you passion/excitement to your role and team?

There are two things that most energize me about my role as Director of Seller Fulfillment Systems. I obsess on best ways of making my team and customers lives better. Over the last decade at Amazon I have never ceased to be amazed by the talent and potential in my colleagues. As a leader, I love coaching, mentoring, providing insights and feedback, and thinking about how I can unleash more of their superpowers and create impact. This allows me to create an environment in which blockers are removed and the team can solve the hardest, most impactful problems. This delivers results for our customers, but we also infuse our customer perspectives in what we do, making that impact even more meaningful. Every day I wake up and try to think about these two groups and how I can influence them.

What do you do for fun to keep a solid work-life balance?

I have two little kids, Adalyn (3yo), and Keagan (1yo) who keep me very busy. In the winter months, we love spending time outside especially cross-country skiing (putting them in a chariot), downhill skiing (Adalyn ‘graduated’ from her first ski lessons this year!), and generally eat as much clean snow as we can find. In the summer, we love to hike (though they are getting very heavy and wiggly to be carried), swim, and spend time in the mountains. Usually there is travel involved with all of these activities and both kids also love adventures and visiting new places. On my own, I love to read, do yoga, and spend time with my friends. I am also passionate about all the the women activities and boards I am a part of.

Best place you have ever traveled and why?

I had the opportunity to travel to dozens of cities and multiple countries with Amazon. From meetings with our teams and site visits, to engaging with sellers and customers all over the world. My favorite place that I have traveled with Amazon is India, where I have been more than ten times including Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. On these visits, we were always warmly welcomed with open arms by our colleagues. To ensure our trips were productive and memorable our team hosted us day and night to learn each other better. I’ll never forget one trip when my teammate picked me up from the airport and took me directly to perform customer deliveries - ON A MOTORCYCLE! It was an invigorating way to try to get over my jetlag, as well as, critical to my understanding of some of the unique ways that Amazon gets packages delivered to customers.

In all my travels, my most memorable experience was attending an employees’ wedding in Bangalore while on a business trip (pictured below). The happiness, vibrancy, warmth, and culture filled fun was truly unforgettable. I was happy to be one of hundreds to celebrate his big day with him.

STOP PORCH PIRATES Lower the cost of the Last Mile Delivery issues. I have designed and Patented Safe Drop Security Delivery System www.safedroptx.com installation video https://youtu.be/4AofN_aDuqo. Safe Drop is installed in the garage door, metal building or wood framed structure. The door frame is fully assembled has a cut template to trace cut hole in garage door. Cut the hole, place door frame into hole, tightened with enclosed bolts and tighten. That all for the installation. Then program the proprietary keypad bolt lock. When the customer orders a home delivery, under Special Instructions the ask the delivery driver go to the garage door, place the keypad code you selected. Door opens, driver places packages inside garage on floor. shut door driver leaves. No Packages in sight out of weather and eventually lower Amazon's Lost and Stolen Claims payouts.
