QA Tester/ QA Engineer/ Automation Engineer

QA Tester/ QA Engineer/ Automation Engineer

Recent times shows more and more companies are pushing to automate their test efforts, which makes sense, running automation testing saves money and time. Also true it brings issues to the table where a good QA should be able to identify what is a bug in the code or what is a automation script bug, also be knowledgeable to write automation test cases, run, analyze, interpret results, write good bug reports etc etc etc. So there is a big demand for automation engineer in today's market, clearly. But what people fail to realize is the distinctiveness of each QA professional.

  • A QA Tester, should be able to run tests, write test cases, write clean bug reports, track reports, fix verify, do exploratory testing, have knowledge of clusters, be able to read codes and scripts.
  •  A QA Engineer, takes QA to the next level. Not only will they have mastered the testing skills, but dive deeper into understanding the code/application under test and is an advocate of QA and all that it has to offer including how it impacts the business and their bottom line.
  •  Automation Engineer, is a developer in QA clothing. These individuals are well versed in QA Automation tools, but are skilled in software development.

Each professional has their skill level and talent they bring to any company. But utilizing a QA Tester or a QA Engineer to perform Automation Engineering will most likely fail because the decision makers have unrealistic expectations of their automation initiative.
