Q&A with Sales Engineer Jacob Orpe

What attracted you to work at Wrekin Sheetmetal?

Getting the opportunities to witness product that I had the privilege of quoting and ultimately winning, showcased in the public eye, fills me with an immense sense of pride.

Can you give an example of a project where you successfully matched a client’s specifications with Wrekin Sheetmetal’s capabilities? What was the approach?

One notable project involved collaborating with a client in the lighting industry. They required a complex sheet metal component for a new LED light that demanded precision and durability. Here's how I approached the task:

1. Client Consultation: I began by thoroughly understanding the client's specifications, which included precise measurements, material preferences, and desired production quantities. I also enquired about any specific design features that were critical to the functionality and aesthetics of the component.

2. Capability Assessment: After gaining a clear understanding of the client's requirements, I conducted an in-depth assessment of Wrekin Sheetmetal's manufacturing capabilities. This involved reviewing the company's equipment, material options, production processes, and expertise in working with intricate designs.

3. Design Optimisation: To ensure a seamless match between the client's specifications and Wrekin Sheetmetal's capabilities, I collaborated closely with our engineering team. We analysed the client's design, identified potential areas for improvement in manufacturability, and made necessary adjustments to enhance efficiency without compromising the component's functionality.

4. Prototyping and Testing: To validate the design and manufacturing process, we produced a prototype of the component using Wrekin Sheetmetal's equipment. Rigorous testing was conducted to ensure that the prototype met the client's specifications and performed well under simulated conditions.

5. Continuous Communication: Throughout the project, I maintained open and transparent communication with the client. Regular updates, progress reports, and feedback loops helped ensure that any adjustments were made promptly, and the client's expectations were consistently met.

6. On-time Delivery: Leveraging Wrekin Sheetmetal's efficient production processes, we successfully delivered the final batch of components ahead of the client's deadline. The components were not only within the specified tolerances but also met the highest quality standards.

How do you collaborate with other departments within Wrekin Sheetmetal, such as the engineering or production teams, to ensure a seamless experience for your B2B clients?

Communication: the bridge between vision and reality. Without it, dreams falter; with it, possibilities are boundless. Embracing new projects demands clarity. Initiating an onboarding meeting prelude, uniting cross-functional teams, guarantees harmony when the work begins. Together, let's turn aspirations into achievements.

How do you approach long-term relationship building with manufacturers?

Building long-term relationships with manufacturers involves a strategic and consistent approach. I believe that some of the more important factors behind this approach would be to have open communication, consistently reliable, regular face-to-face interactions and showing continuous improvements methods.

?

How do you see the future of sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing evolving?

The future of sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing is a dynamic blend of cutting-edge technology, sustainability, and adaptability. As industries evolve and customer expectations change, those who embrace innovation and stay agile are likely to thrive.
