Q&A with Jennifer Gotch, Legal Recruiter & Consultant

As the first employee hire at OpusLex Partners, Jennifer Harris Gotch has been with us since the beginning! If you’ve worked with OpusLex, you know Jen as the hilarious and gregarious blonde who has never met a stranger and is one of Atlanta’s dearests in the legal community. We couldn’t do it without her, and we’re so glad she’s part of the team.

We sat down with Jen to learn more about her career journey.

OLP: What do you love most about working in legal recruiting?

Jen: I consider myself a connector and definitely a “people person.” I really enjoy connecting people with their best place to work. It’s incredibly rewarding to match the puzzle pieces that make a complete career picture. Choosing your career and place of work is one of your biggest life decisions. I take my part in this very seriously, and I’m honored to help people find the best place for their careers and lifestyles to flourish.?

OLP: How did your career path lead you to your role with OLP?

Jen: I began my career 25 years ago as an internal recruiter with an AMLAW 200 firm in Atlanta. I started as a recruiting assistant running the summer associate program and worked through the ranks to become the director of lateral placement and professional development. After a few years of staying at home with my children, I went to work on the agency side. A mutual friend connected me with Amanda when she was looking to start her own business, and the rest is history! I was employee #1.

OLP: What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve received?

Jen: Don’t work harder, work smarter.?

OLP: What are the biggest challenges facing your industry right now?

Jen: We always want to improve the candidate and client experience at OpusLex. As a boutique legal recruiting firm, we differentiate ourselves with customized, white-glove service. It can be challenging to deliver on that promise depending on the players in the room and the timeliness of their feedback.?Legal recruiting is about working hard to manage everyone’s expectations!?

OLP: What was your dream job as a kid?

Jen: I wanted to be the host of Entertainment Tonight.?

OLP: When I’m not at the office, you can find me _______________.

Jen: You can find me running my middle school-aged son around, playing pickleball or Mahjong, having dinner out in Atlanta, or traveling to visit my daughter in Virginia.?
