Working together to drive excellence in care for our patients and communities
Hip fracture is the most common serious injury in older people and the majority result from a fall. Older patients presenting with hip fractures are some of the frailest and sickest patients in hospital. Their care requires a collaborative approach between many professionals to ensure the best outcomes for all of these patients.
The National Hip Fracture Database provides an opportunity to examine performance and outcomes and an annual report is published. A Best Practice Tariff defines the key components of quality patient management all of which must be attained for the individual patient to qualify –in 2016 QA hospital treated 749 patients with hip fracture (6th highest nationally) and was ranked top in terms of numbers of patients receiving Best Practice Tariff and was the only hospital to achieve top quartile in all rated assessments.
Dr Sue Poulton, Consultant Orthogeriatrian says: “These excellent results are a reflection of the strong commitment of the whole Multidisciplinary team at QA Hospital to providing the highest quality care to this vulnerable group of patients-- and we will continue to strive for further improvement and maintain vigilance over our performance.”
