Q&A with the expert – Sales and Operations with Darren Windsor.

For this Q&A we sit down with our National Sales and Operations Manager – Darren Windsor. Join us as Darren shares his industry knowledge and talks about his adrenaline-fuelled hobbies!

How long have you been working in the Building Services industry?

I first joined the Building Services Industry 20 years ago as an apprentice for a well-known national merchant, but I have been specifically in the metering industry for 6 years.

What would you say your strengths are?

I would say my main strength in my role is building relationships, I also enjoy a challenge and I find that my role has plenty of opportunities to explore different challenges.

What is your favourite aspect of your role?

It's great to see a project come together, I am often involved from the early design stages, so it's very satisfying to see the final outcome – from design to completion. I also take part in site visits for any follow-up assistance that might be required.

How did you come to work in the industry?

When I was offered the apprenticeship I saw the potential of a long-term career, some 20 years later I can safely say that it was a wise decision!

If you were to create a slogan for DMS, what would it be and why?

Simply the best! Need I say more?

How do you manage your time?

My role requires me to split my time between the office and travelling to sites and customer visits. This keeps me on the road a fair bit so managing my time is crucial. It requires careful planning and organisation. Taking the time to plan ahead.

What advice would you give to someone new to the industry?

Set your goals based on the person above you, progression is key. Building good product knowledge and getting to know your customers is vital!

If you could invent something to assist installers, what would it be?

Knowledge sharing – instantly! If you meet me, I can explain this one! But the power to instantly share an expert’s knowledge would be great!

How do you enjoy spending your spare time?

My main hobby at present is boxing, which my son has also taken up! I like that it gives me new challenges and keeps me fit. However, before I found my love for boxing, I was an avid biker. My passion for bikes started when I was just 8 years old, mainly riding off roaders on my local fields. I then got my licence at 16. From 2006 to 2018 I took part in many track days. Both of my hobbies have been a positive focus in life, the ability to progress through training, time and effort and seeing the outcome from hard work! Although my leathers have been hung up, I still enjoy watching the MOTOGP!
