Q&A: Chanchal Ganotra, Manager, Quality Assurance

Chanchal was born and raised in Delhi, India and started her journey with Amazon in Bengaluru, India 6 years ago. She has 13 years of extensive experience in STLC, automation and release of top-quality software in e-commerce domains. She is a strong leader who embodies quality and openly identifies risk and customer-impacting potential. Chanchal strives for technology and automation as her first approach to bring in testing early in the Software Life Cycle. She is passionate about optimizing and improving team efficiency through innovative ideas, process improvements and automation.

Chanchal believes in creating and working in a positive, fun learning environment.?She supports an environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn and grow further in their career. Additionally, Chanchal’s strong project and people management skills help her earn trust from her team and delivering complex projects on time with great quality under aggressive deadlines. In her free time, Chanchal enjoys dancing (Bhangra & Salsa) and watching movies.?

What an accomplishment at Amazon are you most proud of??“In the span of 6 years with Amazon, there are many instances and achievements that make me proud. The best accomplishment for me is to be a part of the Amazon Pharmacy launch, an online pharmacy that makes managing medication easy for our customers. I joined the Amazon Pharmacy team 3 years back as the first QAE when it was in the initial phase of designing and I have seen passion and motivation within the teams who worked really hard, with great dedication, to make it happen. I still remember the days when we were close to the launch and we all moved to the virtual model of working due to widespread COVID, but all our engineers, and managers put their best efforts. They spent days and nights to bring this incredible product to our customers when it was most needed with lockdowns implemented and going out in public wasn’t preferred. I felt immense pleasure to launch this online pharmacy and come close to our customers that served as a big blessing and relief for people in need of medications.”

What is your favorite leadership principle and why? “As a people manager, my favorite leadership principle is Earn Trust followed by Invent and Simplify. To be successful as a leader in a complex, fast growing business with multiple cross-functional teams, it is super important to earn the trust and respect of the team and build positive working relationships by consistently making good decisions, keeping commitments, treating others and their ideas with respect, and adhering to high ethical standards. Providing an environment where team members have room to take smart risks, learn from their mistakes and are encouraged to think out of the box fosters team motivation, happiness and growth that ultimately leads to more productivity and efficient working styles.”

Best place you have ever traveled? “The best place I have ever traveled is San Diego, which is a small and beautiful city in California. It’s a city that gives you a flavor of everything you need to relax, party and make memories. We visited Coronado and La Jolla beaches, which are great places to hang out and relax. For nightlife and clubs, we went to Gaslamp Quarter, which is a lively downtown neighborhood in San Diego.?We enjoyed the wonderful water and whale shows in Sea World, explored USS Midway Museum, enjoyed shopping and food at Sea Port Village, Little Italy. I have been to that place twice and hope to make a third visit too.”
