We're excited to interview Xiaoxian Fan - who graduated from 加拿大西安大略大学 in Canada and is a Prodigy Finance mentor!

"Studying in Canada has not only provided me with a top-notch education but also immersed me in a vibrant and diverse cultural milieu. I've had the privilege of learning from world-class faculty and collaborating with talented peers from around the globe, enriching my understanding of different perspectives and approaches."


What inspired you to study abroad?

"As someone deeply passionate about exploring diverse cultures and expanding my global perspective,? I found the opportunity to study abroad highly appealing. Experiencing different educational systems, engaging with students from various backgrounds, and immersing myself in new environments were all factors that motivated me to pursue international education."

What was the most challenging part of your study abroad journey?

"Transitioning to a new academic and cultural environment posed several challenges. Adapting to different teaching styles, navigating unfamiliar administrative processes, and adjusting to life away from home were among the most significant hurdles. Additionally, balancing academic demands with personal and social responsibilities required careful time management and resilience. However, overcoming these challenges strengthened my adaptability and problem-solving skills, ultimately contributing to a richer learning experience."

What was the most rewarding part?

"The most rewarding aspect of studying abroad was the opportunity to broaden my horizons and gain a deeper understanding of global business dynamics.

Engaging with diverse classmates and faculty members enriched my learning experience by offering unique perspectives and insights.

Furthermore, participating in experiential learning opportunities, such as internships in Thailand, and case competitions, allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings and develop practical skills.

Building lasting friendships with individuals from around the world was also incredibly fulfilling, creating a global network that extends beyond the classroom."


Why did you choose to study as a postgraduate in Canada?

"Canada's reputation for academic excellence, cultural diversity, and quality of life were key factors in my decision to pursue postgraduate studies there. Having previously experienced the welcoming and inclusive environment of Canadian universities during my undergraduate studies, I knew that Canada would provide an ideal setting for furthering my education and career goals.

Additionally, the opportunity to access world-class faculty, cutting-edge research facilities, and a thriving business ecosystem at institutions like Ivey Business School made Canada a compelling choice for my postgraduate studies."

Why did you sign up to be a mentor at Prodigy Finance?

"Upon learning about the Prodigy Finance mentors program, I was immediately drawn to the idea of being a mentor.

I want to be a mentor because I believe in the importance of giving back and paying forward the support and guidance that I have received.?

I am passionate about helping aspiring students navigate the challenges of studying abroad, offering insights, advice, and encouragement to empower them to succeed.?"

What's your advice to aspiring students wanting to study in Canada?

"As someone who has experienced the joys and challenges of studying abroad in Canada, I understand the mix of excitement and anxiety that accompanies such a significant transition. My suggestion to all students who would like to apply to Canadian Universities is to embrace this opportunity with an open mind and a willingness to explore new horizons.?
