Q&A with Bryant Mitchell - Program Manager, Amazon Flex Launches

Bryant Mitchell joined Amazon as an Area Manager in 2020 and moved into a Program Manager role in 2021. In this interview, Bryant shares his experience Amazon, detailing his favorite memory, leadership principles, and his biggest accomplisment since working at Amazon.

What is your favorite Amazon memory?

I was in Seattle for a DEI Summit last October. During the Summit, we had a team appreciation event for all of the attendees. My colleague, who had planned the event, was so giddy leading up to it. He wanted to leave us all in suspense of what was to come! As soon as we closed out our meetings for the day, he stood up and pulled out a bag full of Rave Green and Sounder Blue face paint. We all took turns painting unique designs on our faces and then headed straight to the stadium to sit with the BIGGEST Seattle Sounders soccer fans! It has definitely been a highlight of my Amazon career.

What brings you passion/excitement to your role and team?

"It's Always Day 1" - The company's core philosophy of maintaining a startup mindset has kept me consistently engaged and excited to come to work, even as the organization has grown into a tech powerhouse. Throughout my tenure here, I've been continuously involved in supporting new business ideas and innovative initiatives. I find the ambiguity and rapid pace of these projects to be exhilarating. There's always a sense of curiosity and a willingness to experiment, take calculated risks, and pivot when necessary. The "It's Always Day 1" mindset ensures I never lose that initial spark and excitement, even as the company scales.

What accomplishment at Amazon are you most proud of?

As a leader of Amazon Flex's expansion efforts, I'm proud to share the remarkable progress we've made in scaling our presence across North America. Through the successful launch of several new business initiatives, we've been able to enhance the delivery options available to our customers. It’s also fun to see how these delivery options become available to my friends and family located in different parts of the US. I’m known for sending, “Just launched a warehouse by you!” to whoever is nearby, It helps me stay in touch!

What is your favorite leadership principle and why?

‘Earn Trust’ has always stood out to me. Without trust, it is incredibly difficult for a leader to inspire commitment and drive collaboration. Trusted leaders are able to foster an openness that enables teams to take smart risks, share information freely, and work together seamlessly. It is the bedrock upon which sustained organizational success is built.

What do you do for fun/ worklife balance?

One of the ways I maintain my work-life balance is through traveling. Whether it's exploring new destinations or revisiting favorite spots, getting out of my routine and immersing myself in different cultures is incredibly rejuvenating. In addition to my love for travel, I'm also a lover of music. I frequently attend music festivals, and I actually perform at local events and weddings! One of my favorite gigs that I’ve done is singing your holiday favorites at my local Botanical Gardens!

Best place you have ever traveled?

After I graduated high school, my friends and I backpacked around Europe for an entire month. We stumbled across a town in Switzerland that is only accessible by train – Zermatt. This place is filled with traditional Swiss chalets, cobblestone streets, and of course, the Matterhorn, which is one of the most famous and recognizable peaks in the Swiss Alps. Even in the midst of summer, you can take a gondola up to the top of the Matterhorn to find year-round skiing, ice cave exploring, and snow tubing.
