Field Trials - GreenWaste Zanker Resource Recovery Facility?
In October, Urban Machine?launched v3.1 of The Machine into field trials at?GreenWaste Zanker Resource Recovery Facility?in San Jose, California. Leveraging valuable insights from testing v3.0 this summer, our engineering team worked diligently to develop this next iteration. By constantly pushing the boundaries and learning from trials, we are one step closer to realizing?our mission of reclaiming wood waste and contributing to the?circular economy.
Sustainability - Urban Machine's Approach to C&D Waste
Watch as our robot expertly extracts nails from wood salvaged?at Zanker Recycling.
But the real magic happens when "Big Bird" occasionally misses a nail – it promptly reattempts without hesitation. That's efficiency in action!
Our mission extends beyond advancing technology. We're dedicated to revolutionizing sustainable construction materials and protecting our environment by offering the efficient REuse of reclaimed wood--ensuring our forests thrive and economic growth drives in a circular fashion.
Listen for the celebration from our Co-Founder and Chief Software Architect Alex Thiele as the robot swiftly goes for a missed nail without returning home first!
DLT - Dowel Laminated Timber
Urban Machine's CEO and Co-founder, Eric Law, alongside 美国加州大学伯克利分校 Professor,?Paul Mayencourt, and All Bay Lumber's President, Frank Addiego, have partnered with a manufacturer to develop a?machine to craft Dowel Laminated Timber (DLT) from Urban Machine's reclaimed wood.

DEconstruction - and REuse
This research promotes sustainable construction through the development of?tools for urban mining and digital deconstruction, reducing reliance on new resources. It uses a database system and digital design strategy for upcycled materials, enhancing resource efficiency and providing a user-friendly interface for designers.
The unique material health indicator ensures transparency, and the system achieves an 85% match between designed components and reclaimed materials, demonstrating predictability in construction outcomes.
