A Message from Matt Rooney
I'm excited to share our 2nd edition of the Quarterly BD Report. Since focusing exclusively on recruiting for private equity business development at the beginning of 2023, I've certainly seen a wide range of approaches to hiring dedicated sourcing professionals. This report is designed to showcase the diversity of these approaches, offering insights that may aid firms as they contemplate the evolution of their BD teams.
The landscape of business development in private equity is marked by its variety. Firms with similar fund sizes often allocate vastly different resources to their BD functions. This report offers a snapshot of the current state of BD (through Q2 '24) within the industry and sets the foundation for tracking ongoing trends in future editions.
With 390 firms now employing dedicated BD professionals, the function is clearly on an upward trajectory. Many firms are appointing their first dedicated BD staff, while others are expanding their teams. This report, along with all our efforts surrounding PE BD, is designed to deliver valuable data and insights that support strategic decision-making and encourage continued growth in the sector.
