The PVC recycling program to increase sustainability and reduce waste
The Vinyl Institute (VI), a U.S. trade association representing vinyl manufacturers, has launched a recycling grant program called Viability. This program, which is the first-of-its-kind in the industry, aims to increase the recycling of post-consumer polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in the country. The program will make up to $1 million available annually for the next three years, provided by four PVC resin manufacturers based in the United States. The grants will be awarded to industry collaborations such as trade associations, recyclers, universities, and material recovery facilities for equipment purchases, processing investments, and educational programs that support the long-lasting and sustainable recycling of vinyl products. The first round of grant applications ended on March 1, and the recipients will be announced 60 days after the deadline. Ned Monroe, VI's President and CEO, notes that this initiative shows the association's commitment to increasing post-consumer recycling volume to 160 million pounds by 2025.
