PV Prices Reached the Bottom? - June-July 2023 trend

We have prepared a PV industry price report for you to get up-to-date information about the trends in June and forecast analysis for July 2023.

Polysilicon

In June for many polysilicon manufacturers prices became lower then overall production costs. These price offers of June can be explained as sharp method of overproduced inventory reduction. At the same time new market players also prompted polysilicon offer increase and sped up continuous price decrease within Q2Y2023.

Wafer

Inventory reduction pressure within main wafer suppliers caused stable prices especially for M10 size wafer. G12 wafer prices are facing further decrease while M10 wafer prices are expected to stabilize within the short term.

Cell

Regarding supply end of cells, this segment starts facing overall inventory decrease. At the same time, demand from PV modules manufacturers has slightly decreased. But it is expected they will revise active procurement before summer factory maintenance period to ensure stock.

However, for the moment cells prices are temporary stabilizing at a steady manner.

Module

For the last quarter prices for mainstream PV modules were decreasing under impact of general trend for polysilicon. At the same time, focus on inventory reduction from overseas for many manufacturer led to stable low prices in June.

Freight Cost Trends (June 2023)

Since March 2023 sea freight prices are stable and keep staying at the low level, proving a good chance for containers booking. For the whole Q2Y2023 average freight value was around $1,450 with another slight decrease in June to $1399 (23-June data).

July forecast

Available stock for polysilicon reduced a lot within May and June. Plus we are getting close to the high temperature summer season for manufacturers and most of factories will start yearly maintenance process. For sure, thus will impact the production lead time and products availability. As a result of planned summer technical maintenance could be prices sudden increase for July-August.
