The Puzzle

The Puzzle

Humanity has come a long way from the old ways we used to understand the world around us; we by nature want to give things meaning and value whether it means something or not. Whether it has value or not. Today we are far from perfect but the data, science and knowledge that's right at our fingertips all day every day is astounding. Yes, we will argue forever about what does it all mean and what to do; but having a much better handle on what's happening and why then ever before makes our time unique and special.

It can be like drinking from a fire-hose, to the point where we just want it to stop. It's definitely overwhelming; we all have things to worry about in our own day-to-days. So here are some data points that are, to me, significant pieces of the puzzle.

What does it all mean? I don't know fully, noone does of course. But we can and should certainly use these pieces (and of course it's limited by definition) to understand what's happened, what's happening, and where we are all going:

Demographics:

Finances:

What's been happening in the markets, investment and the banking worlds the last few years? Been anything but boring, with plenty of challenges today and ahead of us: and we can't talk about the world of money without understanding the world, in the form of demography, right?

Health:

And if you don't have health, you can't have wealth. The two are as interconnected as peanut butter and jelly or fish & chips (yes, I'm writing while hungry):

So, what does it all mean? For ourselves, our families, our communities, our businesses, our world (and yes, I could have done a whole separate newsletter on environment/water/climate) - it's always important to have more understanding, but it has to be followed by action; or the learning, the process, the time, the brainpower, becomes empty.

Leave the world fuller than when you got here.

Secure the bag.
