Putting Something Back for a change
Many occasions businesses are seen as take take take and non more than those in the recycling sector. We often get told that everything we collect has a value so why so expensive to collect it and processes it?
Well markets rise and markets fall, bills never come down, machinery is never cheap, min wages rise, others expect more to show they are worth more than those on the min wages and the list goes on as I know we are all aware (no need to teach all to suck eggs)
So we thought about doing something different and giving something back for a change so we've started a local kerbside recycling service to the local people of Hailsham East Sussex, and even though we only just started putting flyers through peoples letter boxes recently (this week in fact) asking if they would like to support this, the response has been to say the least over whelming. This service is totally free to the public and we will be donating 50% of the revenue received to our chosen Charity St Wilfrids Hospice in Eastbourne.
For once in our businesses lives we feel that we are now making a difference to others. It combines our recycling ethos and goes to show that if you give a little thought at your own business models you can help others at very little cost (even zero) to your own business. Just think if we all did something a little like this we can make a huge change no matter what you donate or give in exchange for work.
People don't like change they like what they like however when you can show that it's not all take take then they respond in a more positive way. For example say a local Waste to Energy Plant was to tell everyone in the area that they would get power/heat for the life of the plant at 50% less than current costs there would be little objection to it's planning and it would promote the waste wasn't going to landfill win win. A wind farm doing the same "Bring on the wind" they would say, may be we have it wrong, there will be the ones who say "doing for yourselves" "no such thing as a free lunch" and all that, well there isn't and we're not afraid to admit that this is a business model with a positive outcome to everyone and no business should be ashamed to admit it. So we progress with this venture knowing that the charity we are supporting is getting a little help from us to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves for we know fully well that recycling has a future and unfortunately those we support know theirs.
Thank you all who are supporting
