Putting On The Right Lens

Putting On The Right Lens

“We often judge others and ourselves based on what we have and don’t have.”

Cars, houses, title, company, wealth...and the list goes on.

In a world where material possessions seem to define success and worth, it is easy to fall into the trap of evaluating ourselves and others based on external markers such as what they own, status they carry and the amount of wealth they have.

Our possessions whether tangible or intangible become the measuring sticks against which we gauge our value.

But is this the whole truth?

Judgment based on possessions blinds us to the struggles others face. We forget that behind every facade of success and wealth lies a story.

A battle fought, a dream deferred, a heartache endured.

The next time when someone shares a success with you, be curious to ask them about the challenges and sacrifices they made. Real understanding comes when we see beyond the surface.

Letting go of the need for external validation also helps in liberating ourselves.

Each of us are unique individuals with talents, strengths and quirks. We are not defined by job titles, company or possessions we hold. When we stop defining ourselves by what we have, we open space for growth, gratitude, and authenticity.

So how do all these have to do with Leadership in Asia?

Well, it has everything to do with it.

True leadership is not just about leading others, but also leading ourselves and becoming the role model for the people around us. More importantly in Asia, leadership is not just about authority; it is about harmony, respect, and legacy you leave behind.

So, to my fellow readers, let us be good role models by leading ourselves first.

While we cannot stop others from judging us, we can always be gracious and be the ones to not judge others with what they have and don’t have.

It is easier said than done, and it takes a huge amount of effort and mindfulness to do this right.

But I have faith, that we will be more careful about putting on the right lens to see the world next time.
