Putting the finishing touches....

I’ve been putting the finishing touches on a live class that I’ll be teaching in just a few weeks (you’re invited!), and the anticipation is friqqin’ killing me. If you weren’t aware, despite the regrettable tattoos and loud fashion and occasional expletives, I’m painfully introverted.
As I’ve been mapping out my presentation, I’ve thought of every permutation that disaster could take. There have been many times when I’ve fully landed on the thought that I’m a joke, that I don’t have anything unique to share, and that I’m just not cut out to teach anyone anything. Hell, I didn’t even finish college! Who do I even think I am?
Frank Zappa once said “What’s the ugliest part of your body? I think it’s your mind.” –– and that’s been true for all of us at some point.
Of all my talents, I’d say that ruining a good thing before it happens ranks among the very top. Think about the amount of energy you’ve spent putting yourself through a negative experience that hasn’t even happened yet. Now imagine all the things you could have done with that time instead. I know. It hurts.
The truth is that anticipation is almost always worse than the experience itself. Once I’ve lashed myself 1,000 times over, debating whether or not it’s awful or I’ll fail or whatever, when the time finally comes to show up and just do the thing it ends up being a walk in the park.
Why the hell is that? Well, it’s like when you get out of a swimming pool to pee and your pee is shockingly hot (isn’t that the weirdest?!). We ice ourselves out of good experiences so intensely that when a good one comes, it’s a shock to the system.
This is no state to live in.
My hope for you is that you challenge your thoughts a bit more after reading this, and remind yourself that whatever it is you’re trying to convince your mind of, it likely won’t be as daunting as you imagined it once you’re on the other side.
And if you’re a fellow founder or founder-to-be feeling intimidated, overwhelmed, or rattled by the thought of starting a business (believe me, I’ve been there), then you should stay tuned for details on my free live class coming soon. I think it may be just what you need to get out of this funk (if this email and my hot pee references weren’t enough).
Wheels up!
