Putting Central Asia’s aquaculture sector on the map

Putting Central Asia’s aquaculture sector on the map

Kazakhstan might not be famous for its fish farms, but one man is determined to change this. Despite being involved in the sector for less than a year, Shyngys Maksutbekuly has embraced it with a missionary zeal, with plans in progress for creating a series of farms for species such as trout, pikeperch and char. Given the extremes of his homeland’s climate, Maksutbekuly faces the sort of challenges that are likely to put off all but the most bullish investors, but his infectious enthusiasm should count in his favour, especially if he can achieve a few successful harvests in the year ahead.
