Putting the AI in clinical trial

Venture capital for startups reimagining trillion-dollar industries through a world positive lens.
Cancer is on the rise around the globe. Over 35 million new cancer cases are predicted in 2050, according to the World Health Organization, a 77% increase from the estimated 20 million cases in 2022. Approximately 1 in 9 men and 1 in 12 women die from the disease.?
Cancer is remarkably democratic. One way or another, it touches us all.
Access to the clinical trial system is anything but democratic. Clinical studies play a pivotal role in medical advances and improved patient outcomes. Yet only 2% to 8% of eligible cancer patients participate in clinical trials. And 80% of all clinical trials are delayed or closed due to enrollment issues. Geography plays a critical role—clinical trials are often limited to large academic centers in cities and not available in community health settings. So does awareness—a lack of patient education around trials and technology gaps in identifying and enrolling patients also contribute to the problem.?
Pi Health is using AI to simplify and modernize an archaic trial process that currently involves binders full of paper, spreadsheets, and manual data entry. The startup uses AI to automate tasks, including matching patients with trials, creating clinical documentation, and monitoring during studies. Pi Health also recruits cancer patients from a diverse genetic pool from across four countries: the U.S., India, Australia, and Brazil.?
This new software platform will reduce friction and costs while rapidly increasing patient enrollment in trials around the globe, automating manual processes so that data collection can be done faster and at a higher quality, advancing medicine and improving patient outcomes.?
