Put your test data management on autopilot

Delivering turnkey test data requires many steps beyond copying the actual data. An XDM workflow can automate these additional steps, making the test data usable for application testing. An execution can be scheduled to run once or periodically.

XDM ASPECTS: This section covers the features of automated test data procurement using XDM.

Providing test data typically involves more than simply copying data from one set of tables to another. Requests must be verified against potential constraints that may exist in the source or target environment. For example, it may not be allowed to copy certain sensitive data into a test environment – even when it is masked. In addition, different jobs should not overlap, and you should not overwrite or delete other people's test data.

The DataShop input data often requires reformatting before it can be processed by the technical system. Depending on the testing requirements, it may be unnecessary or unwanted to include data from certain parts of the application model. For example, when copying an insurance contract, you can copy only the contract details and customer information, while omitting the claims.

If the object you wish to copy already exists in the target environment, you must delete the old object before creating a new copy. XDM provides tasks to delete such data from a test environment before creating a new copy.

Workflows may also trigger services outside the database, such as clearing caches or rebuilding indexes in an application. After completing a workflow, XDM can send a notification to the individual who initiated the order. If an unexpected error occurs, administrators can be notified as well. Some test data provision runs must be performed at specific times or on a regular basis.

To manage the test levels regularly checking the databases and structures for correct configuration and structural differences can help identify possible problems before the test data provision is required. Furthermore, each configuration in XDM can be planned in the internal scheduler.

?Advantages

  • Even complex data provisioning processes that involve multiple systems can be represented using XDM workflows.
  • Run multiple tasks in sequence, or use complex logic: XDM Workflows can handle everything.
  • Automated and repeated deployment of test data and reporting.

Features

  • Support for executing custom scripts written in JavaScript or Groovy.
  • API to interact with XDM objects, including a code generation wizard
  • Custom parameters can be accessed at all stages of the process.
  • Includes libraries for communicating with external services, such as REST, email, and messaging tools etc. It also supports third-party libraries.
  • Internal scheduler for executing tasks once or repeatedly
