Put The Weight Down
Good morning Achiever,
We need to talk about your happiness.
Listen...
Everyone talks, few connect.
We buy all this stuff, yet have nothing of value.
We're over fed, yet under nourished.
We're endlessly busy, yet have no meaning.
We have partners, yet no bond.
We have incredible bodies, yet sit all day.
We wake up every morning, many wanting to just go back to sleep.
As I reflect on the past couple weeks, feeling a little "over my head", I've become hyper aware that most people are living lives of quiet desperation.
Truthfully, many aren't even living. They're purely existing. They're just here. They're going through the motions.
Outwardly, we put on a brave face and go about our day.
Yet deep inside, we know something's not right.
And sometimes we struggle to put a finger on it.
I mean... Come on, life is good, right?
We've got a roof over our head, a vehicle to get around in, food on the table, people who love us, what more could we possibly want?
Happiness, a peace in your soul, a "wake up with joy" feeling...
That's what we're all after. And we can debate until we're blue in the face on how to achieve it.
But for me, I feel most at peace when my actions match my heart.
When I'm doing what I know I should be doing.
Notice I didn't say when my RESULTS match my heart. Because I believe being happy isn't correlated to an end goal, but instead to the daily, decisive action towards a set goal. When your very existence matches what your heart desires.
And I notice I'm most unhappy when I know I should be doing something, yet can't get myself to do it.
When I know I should work out, but I skip it.
When I know I should wake up early, but sleep in.
When I know I should eat that salad, but don't.
When I know I should be kind to someone, but I'm rude.
When I know I should spend more time journaling, but don't.
When I know I should ____ but instead I ____.
That's why I spend so much time with my coaching clients on getting to the ROOT cause of what they're going through.
Because until you know what's hurting your soul, everything is just a band-aid.
So let me ask you...
Do your present actions match what you truly want for your life?
Do your routines match the kind of person you want to be?
Do your habits reflect your heart?
Do your words match your feelings?
I'll share a little warning, a secret if you will, I learned a long time ago...
The promises you break with yourself cut the deepest.
We're so quick to point out the promises people break with us...
And some of us even get angry when they doubt promises we make... claiming "my word is my bond!"
Yet...
We break promises with ourselves all the time.
How many times have you said you were going to get up at 5am...
Go for a jog
Spend more time in prayer
Call your mom
Write a book
Start a business
Go for a walk
Sing with your child
Eat a carrot
Quit your job
Record a song
Launch a website
Become a speaker
Learn an instrument
....
And yet... here we are... broken promises, broken dreams, and as a result, broken souls.
Here's my promise to you...
Keep the promises you make with YOU, and that load you're carrying on your shoulders will be much lighter.
Heck, I'd say break a promise with others before you ever, EVER, break one with you.
And if you are carrying weight on your shoulders, if your soul is hurting, if you know something's just not right, if you're struggling to figure out why you can't seem to "get your shit together", quit banging your head against the wall, get a mentor, and jump on a coaching call with me.

PS - One the biggest lessons I learned was when I was at the PEAK of my fitness coaching career. I was on top of the world, I was making all the money I could ever need, and I had an endless list of clients praising my coaching. And yet, something inside me wasn't right. I was cocky (ahem, full of myself) I was living the life, and I thought I had all the answers.
Until I realized, I needed help.
"Ask not for help because you are weak, but ask for help because you wish to remain strong" is a line from my friend and mentor Les Brown that I just couldn't get out of my hear. So I hired my first life coach, some 15 years ago, and I haven't stopped having coaches since.
Coaches help me stay sharp, stay at the top of my game, and most importantly, accountable to my heart.
