The ever-present mantra of a modern manager is that of putting the team first. This means making decisions and acting in ways which prioritize the team’s collective success over that of the individual manager’s. As a manager, putting the team first is essential to achieving long-term success and gaining a loyal and committed workforce.


To begin with, a manager who puts the team first is more likely to foster an environment of mutual respect and trust. This trust and respect serves as the foundation of any successful team. Being willing to negotiate, compromise, and make decisions that are in the best interest of the working group all build loyalty and trust in the team, creating a more harmonious working environment.


Moreover, when managers put the team first, the benefits can be seen in the overall performance of the team. When the team works together to accomplish an objective, the combined individual talents can add up to a synergy that vastly increases team productivity. Such synergy fuels the team to perform more effectively and efficiently while completing tasks that are increasingly complex in nature.
