Put that sh*t down!
David Gilks
I use neuroscience and ancient wisdom to help individuals discover the one thing that will change everything.
It is amazing when things hit you, when ideas and new awareness’s come to light. I was with my kids at a movie and I was ruminating on what it takes to be strong physically and what does it mean to be strong in character, are they created the same way? The more I thought about it, the more similarities I saw, which was exciting for me as it gave so much clarity on how we are to navigate our way through the enviable challenges we face in our life time. When I think about how one develops physical strength, it is a matter of subjecting our bodies to an outside stress in the form of resistance, and in an effort to overcome the we exert more force, more will, and over time, with repetition we get stronger. But the thing that makes the most difference, the part that is the most awesome, is what happens when we put the weight down!! We can run faster, we can jump higher, we are more resilient, we have a stronger immune system and we just feel better over all.
So lets look at the parallel of our emotional journey, the way we develop resiliency, inner strength. We all come face to face in life with things that weigh us down; obstacles that make us dig deeper, making us exert more will to over come the obstacle. After we have successfully has moved through the obstacle, as soon as what was going on in no longer going on, we can put it down and walk away right? Ideally, yes. But most of us don’t do that; we continue to carry the “load” of the experience for years and years, and we have become exhausted from the effort! The experience is there is make us stronger, and maybe it was not your preferred way to learn a lesson, but that is what you got.
Can you imagine leaving the gym with the barbell still on your shoulder, trying to manage your life day to day, the weight of it slowly driving you to your knees. It is a sign for us to put it down what is no longer occurring, put away the books of lessons already learned, and time to revel in your strength and courage that has gotten you so far. You are stronger that you know, but even a strong man or woman will buckle under the constant load if there is never an opportunity to put it down. Put that sh*t down!!!!
