WHEREAS, traffic crashes in the United States of America stole 774,723 lives in the twenty year s between January 1, 1997 through December 31, 2016. And crashes in 2017 took another estimated 40,100 human lives 35,200, and .
WHEREAS, distracted driving is a deadly behavior. Federal estimates suggest that distraction contributes to 16% of all fatal crashes, leading to around 5,000 deaths every year.
WHEREAS, distracted driving, which is any activity that takes a driver’s attention away a from the task of driving, and
WHEREAS, daydreaming can lead to death, and
WHEREAS, electronic devices, such as texting, emails, and downloading music, can lead to death, and
WHEREAS, unrestrained children, pets, and personal items can lead to death, and
WHEREAS, our citizens and visitors deserve to be protected from distracted drivers, and
WHEREAS, our goal is to eliminate “Weapons of Mass Distraction” campaign, and
WHEREAS, this year’s theme, don’t be driven to distraction – Drive to arrive, and
WHEREAS, October 10, 2018 is the 18th annual Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day? and our State is proud to participate in this nationwide effort to reduce fatalities on our roadways.
Now, THEREFORE, I, ______, by virtue of the authority vested in me as the Governor of the Great State of Florida, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, October 10, 2018, as
