Put Aside "Self-Care".

When someone’s name comes up multiple times in conversations around vet med, I know I need to learn more and try to bring their story to Vet Life Reimagined. Melyssa Allen, MA, NBC-HWC, DipACLM was one of those “someones”, and I now understand why so many people rave about her.
Her story is one of resilience, passion, and redefining career paths. Her career aspirations evolved, leading her to blend her love for animals with a mission to support those who care for them.?
Melyssa brings to veterinary medicine a focus on positive psychology and lifestyle medicine. Lifestyle medicine was a new term for me. ?It centers around 6 pillars: physical activity, nutrition, managing stress, restful sleep, social connection, and avoiding harmful substances.
I like this focus more than the term “self-care”. Self-care is too squishy and non-specific. “Self-care” also can have a selfish ring to it and that doesn’t fit the veterinary community.
Not only does Melyssa bring a fresh perspective on veterinary well-being, Melyssa’s journey is a testament to the dynamic paths our careers can take when we intertwine passion with purpose. Her story reminds us that challenges can lead to beautiful transformations, inspiring us to create a positive impact in our fields.
Hear her story and take away some wisdom – listen and/or watch this week’s episode of Vet Life Reimagined.
Sincerely,
