Pushing Potential Further - Bobby Smith

Bobby Smith is not just FOX’s Director of Motorsports; he's also a competitive driver who knows how to handle any terrain. Teamwork plays a crucial role in not just winning a race but also in the design, engineering, and testing of our products. The Motorsports team exemplifies FOX’s core values and Smith takes it step further by involving the team in racing and pit crew support to expand the experience and understanding of our product performance and challenges our athletes face to get to the top of the podium.

?

In 2021, Smith took part in the legendary SCORE Baja 1000 race with Factory Honda Talon team, where he helped pilot the vehicle to a class win in the Pro Utility Task Vehicle Naturally Aspirated class. He and the team followed up their class win with a podium position in 2022. He had FOX engineers Isaac Chapluk navigating for him in 2021 and Nick Leone navigating in 2022, so the engineers could experience the demands put on our product.? At the 2023 Baja 1000, he raced in the new Honda Ridgeline in the premier Trophy Truck class, using the event to further test and push the limits of the RAD Live Valve development. Motorsports Tuner Jack Tyrpin was his navigator, experiencing firsthand the rough Baja terrain and how important tuning is to driving across the unforgiving desert controlled and comfortable.?

Smith is a key player in the FOX Factory Motorsports Group and the Racing Applications Development program. He learned from the best, John Marking, the mastermind behind FOX's innovative products and technologies. The RAD program is all about creating and testing new solutions for racers who push their vehicles to the limit in extreme conditions. Smith and the RAD team refine, test, tweak, and test again until the technology and products are ready to dominate the competition. The RAD team's efforts further product development, enhance the products, and allow a wide variety of customers to experience the advantages. Some of the achievements of the RAD program include the internal bypass design for UTVs, the Toyota TRD program, and Dual Valve Live Valve system.

Bobby Smith is a true leader and a visionary in the motorsports industry. He established the FOX aftermarket truck business and originated Internal bypass technology in the UTV segment, built the Toyota Original Equipment TRD program from the ground up, and authenticated FOX’s reputation for excellence and innovation. The same grit and determination to get behind the wheel are the same traits he applies to pushing our products and technologies. Always seeking to challenge the impossible and embodying our we’re never done mantra.

Awesome, Bobby!

I remember working with Bobby on the first TRD pro prototypes, I was super impressed by how quickly he turned around the design for the offset lower eye on the rear bypass shock. He also worked really well with Tommy Morris on tuning the suspension. Great to see him leading Motorsports for Fox!
